LANCASTER — The First Priority Bank - Lancaster Farmland Trust 11th annual Pedal to Preserve bike ride held Saturday, June 7th, raised over $56,000 to preserve farmland in Lancaster County. Thanks to First Priority Bank’s title sponsorship again this year, and gold medal sponsor, PPL Electric Utilities, the leisure biking event was a tremendous success.
Despite the sweltering heat, nearly 800 cyclists form central and southeastern Pennsylvania, as well as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland enjoyed a day touring Lancaster County’s pristine countryside. Participants enjoyed rest stops, a hot pork barbeque lunch, and drinks and ice cream provided by Turkey Hill Dairy. Over 55 local businesses supported the event with donations of goods and services.
“The Trust is grateful to all the riders who braved the 100 degree heat to come out and raise money in support of farmland preservation. Their contributions will help us say ‘yes’ to the 40 farm families waiting to preserve their land with Lancaster Farmland
Trust,” said Karen Martynick, Executive Director.” “Over 75 preserved farms were showcased along the three bike routes and helped riders experience first hand what a treasure we enjoy in Lancaster County,” Martynick continued.
