The land trust presentations are planned for the following locations, dates and times:

• Thursday, July 10, 7 p.m., Unity Municipal Building

• Monday, July 14, 6:30 p.m., Scottdale Municipal Building

• Monday, July 21, 6:30 p.m., Penn Township Municipal Building

• Tuesday, July 22, 7 p.m., North Huntingdon Building

Westmoreland Land Trust Chair Chuck Duritsa and other members of the land trust board will present a short program that explains why the trust was created, and the organizational work it has done since it was formed just seven months ago.

The board hopes to receive comments from the public on the new, independent organization, as well as recommendations of properties in the county that the trust might want to consider for preservation. The purpose of the land trust is to conserve land of special value to the community, such as land that contributes to the region's quality of life because of its scenic, recreational, environmental, historical or cultural qualities.

The trust, which has filed the legal paperwork to become a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, is not a county organization and does not have any jurisdiction for local zoning decisions. It does not intend to duplicate the work of any existing preservation organization, but may partner with them on projects as appropriate.

All presentations are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.
