Fales Farm will remain forever farmland

Fales Farm on Metacom Avenue could have been turned into 69 house lots, but it has now forever been preserved as farmland.

On Wednesday, Bristol Town Administrator Diane C. Mederos announced the purchase of a conservation easement for Fales Farm, 646 Metacom Ave., by the Town of Bristol and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). In partnering to purchase the development rights, Bristol and the NRCS split the cost of $1,475,000 that will keep the 36-acre farm in agricultural use for perpetuity. Town funds were authorized through a voter-approved bond referendum in 2006.
