Westport, RI (WPRI) - Volunteers come together in Westport to benefit local food banks.
The farm land overlooking the Westport Rivers East Branch has not been utilized for some times, but now the land will be used to feed the less fortunate.
Today volunteers gathered at the Town Farm to turn the soil and start planting vegetables.
Produce from the farm will be given to local food pantries - Westport first and then, as supplies are available - to nearby Fall River and New Bedford which have some of the regions highest homelessness levels.
