County votes to purchase 50 more acres

Aiken County is purchasing an additional 50 acres on University Parkway, which, according to Council, will buffer the new office complex against any future development that may be incompatible. September 09, 2011 The motion was made to execute the purchase Thursday once Council emerged from a one-hour executive session. Council Chairman Ronnie Young, LaWana McKenzie, Willar Hightower, Chuck Smith, Charles Barton and Sandy Haskell voted in favor. Councilmen Gary Bunker and Scott Singer were opposed. Councilwoman Kathy Rawls was absent.
