HEB has signed a contract to buy this land - the entire 57 acres that is up for sale. But, before you immediately visualize a grocery store, know that HEB is not only in the retail business, but also the real estate development business, and are looking at this piece of land as an investment.
They own investment properties all over Texas. They have ideas for the property, but are not going public with those just yet. An HEB spokesman told KRIS that HEB used to own the land where Town And Country Shopping Center is now located. Another example: they owned a piece of land in Round Rock where a retail center was built.
HEB also said the landowner for this spot at Staples and Timbergate came to them about purchasing the land. HEB expects to close on the land within the next two weeks, but they would not say what the final selling price will be.
HEB plans to present their development ideas to nearby residents and say they will complement the surrounding neighborhood and the city's master plan.
