GMP to conserve 2700 acres as offset for wind project

Green Mountain Power, the developer of a wind energy project on Lowell Mountain, says it will conserve about 2,700 acres in the Northeast Kingdom to help offset environmental disruption at the ridge-top project. January 04, 2012 In a statement, Mary Powell, president and CEO of Green Mountain Power, termed the two-parcel conservation project in Eden "unprecedented" in Vermont. The 21-turbine Kingdom Community Wind project, perched on about 160 acres of ridgeline, will produce enough electricity to power about 24,000 homes, a utility statement said Monday.
