BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Seattle-based timber company has completed its purchase of 86,000 acres of land in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.
Mark Doty of Plum Creek Timber Co. confirmed the closing Thursday but did not disclose the sale price.
Essex Timber Co. advertised the land for sale in April for $26 million.
The company bought the former Champion paper company land in 1999 for $7.5 million.
The sale to Plum Creek will have little impact on land use. A conservation agreement excludes development but allows logging and use by the public for hiking, snowmobiling, hunting and other recreational activities.
