Company seeks 4100 acres of Augusta land for biosolids disposal

Augusta supervisors learned Monday that a Virginia company has applied to use 4,148 acres in the county for biosolids disposal. June 21, 2011 Augusta County Administrator Patrick Coffield told supervisors that Recyc Systems of Remington has applied for a permit with Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality. The company wants to put biosolids generated from the municipal wastewater treatment process onto farmland. A letter sent to Coffield by land application specialist Tim Higgs of DEQ’s Harrisonburg office indicated that the next step on the permit request is a public hearing in Augusta County.
