Gretna considers sale of land in new industrial park
Source: Star-Tribune, by Susan Worley
Gretna Town Council is considering the sale of 22.7 acres in the new industrial park south of town.
Donald Young of Donald Young Construction Company has expressed interest in buying the property to move his construction business from Durham, N.C.
Young and his wife, Marie, operate The Gretna Theatre and Sparkle and Shine Car Wash in Town. They live west of town.
A public hearing was held Monday night at the March meeting of Gretna Town council to gather comment on the purchase request. No one spoke at the public hearing.
The property is accessible from Industrial Drive which goes past Amthor International and Capps Shoes.
The consensus of council was that the sale is a good idea. Councilmen said they need to look at and walk the property to determine a price before beginning the sale negotiations.
Another public hearing was held to gather input on the possibility of cutting timber on town-owned property near the waste water treatment plant. There was no comment from the public.
The timber is ready to be harvested on 63.44 acres and the town will negotiate the price.
The town also agreed to pay Melba Dalton $1,400 for .190 acres which is adjacent to the pond in the Gretna Industrial Park that was used during a drought caused water crisis several years ago. The spillway encroaches on the property owned by Dalton.
