CRP adopts Washington farm land

Under the U.S. Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), more than 90,000 acres of Washington’s environmentally fragile land has been adopted for conservation, even more was added during the 41st general sign-up this month. June 23, 2011 According to the Farm Service Agency (FSA), CRP is a voluntary program that assists farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers in using their environmentally-sensitive land for conservation efforts. By reducing water runoff and sedimentation, CRP also protects groundwater and helps improve the condition of lakes, rivers, ponds and streams. Acreage enrolled in the CRP is planted with resource-conserving vegetative covers, making the program a major contributor to wildlife population increases in many parts of the country.
