Nature group buys more land in Sauk County

State conservation officials are seeking public comment on a request by The Nature Conservancy for grant money to cover costs of recent land purchases in Sumpter and Freedom townships. TNC has applied for two 50 percent matching grants from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund to help it purchase 91 acres of land in the town of Sumpter and 113 acres in the town of Freedom. Both plots are within the boundaries of the Baxter's Hollow State Natural Area, said Mary Zickermann, a spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. May 16, 2011
