Wyoming Farm and Ranch Days set for January 30 and 31 in Riverton

January 25, 2008
RIVERTON, Wyo. - More than 20 educational programs ranging from private pesticide licensing and lawns in drought to control of prairie dogs and leafy spurge are part of Fremont County’s 24th annual Extension Farm and Ranch Days Jan. 30-31 in Riverton, Wyo.

All programs are free and for the benefit of area farm and ranch families. The event, in the Fremont County Armory, starts at 9 a.m. both days with three to four programs offered each hour.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for ag producers and the general public to attend a variety of informative and educational events,” said Ron Cunningham, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) Northwest Area educator in Riverton. “We have 70 to 150 people attend every day.”

All lunches are courtesy of the many business sponsors of the event.

Presentation subjects change each year. This year’s subjects include alfalfa management, strategic risk management, seed production, biological control agents on leafy spurge, developing and managing irrigation pasture for livestock, zoonotic diseases (diseases of animals, such as rabies, that can be transmitted to humans), transferring personal property, range monitoring, dealing with prairie dogs, windbreaks and tree care, premise ID, Russian knapweed, farm and ranch accounting, subdivisions and small acreages near ag land, investment and money management and how ranchers can use genetics and DNA to improve herds.
