Based on recent Lands of America data, Wisconsin ranks ninth in the United States for the combined number of properties currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, Wisconsin ranks 24th. Lands of America recently had more than $5 billion in land and other rural acreage for sale in Wisconsin. The combined size of land for sale in the state is appromixately 316,000 acres. Of the 72 counties in the state, Vilas County had the most land and rural real estate for sale. There were 1,161 acres of sold land in Wisconsin recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a four percent increase in sales activity over the previous month, with a combined land value of $5 million for all property and land sold in the state. Rusk and Washburn County had the most land sales recently in the state. Wisconsin hunters head out into the state's forests and public hunting lands each fall to bag white-tailed deer, followed by the popular wild turkey hunting season in spring. The state's lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams brim with over 160 species of fish. In terms of its size, Wisconsin is the country's 23rd-largest state, covering an area of 65,503 square miles (42 million acres). In total, 54,158 square miles is land, while the remaining 11,339 square miles is covered by water. Game species to be found on land for sale in Wisconsin include whitetail deer, turkey, bear, grouse, and ducks. Fishermen have their pick of walleye, bass, pike, catfish, and trout.
