Corridor Ranch is a uniquely situated wildlife property located just east of Wetumka, OK. This 180 acre ranch lies in the midst of an expansive wooded corridor that extends from the South Canadian River at Calvin, OK to the North Canadian River just north of the ranch. This belt of heavy timber varies in width but averages about two miles wide and extends almost completely unbroken between the two Canadian Rivers. As such, it provides wildlife with a densely vegetated pathway that connects the two river corridors. Corridor Ranch has one of the few open creek bottoms in this shortcut between the two rivers and would be an ideal spot to create a wildlife sanctuary. The property is located on Greasy Creek just 1 mile from its confluence with Wewoka Creek and 2 miles from the North Canadian River as the crow flies. This is a ranch where, with some thoughtful plantings, you could attract a huge number of deer, turkey, pigs and waterfowl from this massive area of heavy cover.
The soils of the creek bottom are ideal for food plots. Approximately 100 acres of the ranch has loamy soils of the highly fertile types such as Okay, Madill and Verdigris. These soil types are conducive to establishing highly productive food plots that can sustain dense wildlife populations as was seen with the large numbers of whitetails that grazed winter wheat pastures planted in past years. In addition, there are about 80 acres of timber on the property providing immediate cover for animals. Large hardwoods such as Red Oaks, Walnuts and Pecans grow in the creek bottom providing ideal roosting spots and an open woods setting favored by Wild Turkeys. Upland areas are blanketed with Post Oak and Blackjack.
Water is provided by 3200 feet of Greasy Creek frontage and 8 small ponds. The largest of the ponds is only about 1 acre in size but despite their small size, several 7 pound bass have been caught in them. In addition, the growth of perennial smart weed in the shallows of the ponds coupled with the close proximity to the North Canadian River causes ducks to stack up in the ponds. The ranch has 120 feet of elevation change as you travel down a south facing slope from the road frontage to the creek. The orientation of this slope provides great shelter from cold north winds which makes the ponds especially attractive to ducks on those super cold, windy days when a big northern front moves through pushing waterfowl south.
Corridor Ranch has a convenient location just 4 miles west of Wetumka on Highway 9 and is only a 90 minute drive from either Tulsa or OKC. However, if you would like a place to stay so that you don't have to drive back and forth during hunting season, an additional, adjoining 10 acres with house and out buildings is available for purchase. If you have been looking for an ideal spot to put your wildlife management skills to practice, then you really need to check this ranch out. It is a diamond in the rough and with a little work could be a spectacular place for you, your family and friends to enjoy the outdoors.
