The Stsagecoach Inn was built in 1850 on its present location as an inn for weary travelers between Austin and Houston as well as from and to Washington on the Brazos, which was the first Capital of Texas. Travelers used the stagecoach inn to rest overnight, have their horses fed and watered during the night and usually went on their way the next day.

The 14-room Greek Revival Inn was built in 1850 by Mary and Jacob Haller, Chappell Hills founder and first postmaster. The Smith and Jones Stage Line as well as the F P Sawyers Line would stop for the night and travelers on horseback or private coaches could also find food and lodging. When cotton in the area begin to fade and roads and highways were built around the town of Chappell Hill the inn fell in decay and disrepair until 1976 when Harvin C Moore and his wife Elizabeth decided to bring the Inn back to life with a full restoration in its original form. It was then that the Stagecoach Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1970 an 1866 Greek Revival cottage was moved to the property. The Weems house severs as an antique shop by the present owners. Also in 1970 another nearby Coach House, a charming small two-story saltbox house serves as a guest cottage.

Not only is the old Inn still elegant and beautiful as it nears its second century of welcoming travelers, it is at the same time a cherished home to the owners who are the latest in a line of preservationist to have saved an important piece of Texas history from decline and deterioration, to the benefit of all.

The manicured grounds with towering pecan, live oak, and sycamore trees shade the carpet grass of the grounds ready for many back yard parties and outings.

The property is watered by its own water well even though community water is available.

The two additional homes on the property add to the number of bedrooms and sq ft in the total property
